Dear McKinley Parents,

We are excited to share details about our annual McKinley Turkey Trot happening on Friday, November 21, 2025! It's always such a fun event.  Below are answers to some frequently asked questions to help you understand this special event and how you can get involved.

1. What is the McKinley Turkey Trot?
   The Turkey Trot is an annual fun run event at McKinley, where students get to celebrate the season by participating in a friendly race with their classmates. This has become a beloved school tradition for students and teachers alike.  
   
   
2. Why do we do it?
   The Turkey Trot not only encourages physical activity but also fosters school spirit and community engagement. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to have fun, cheer each other on, and practice teamwork. Of course, we always love having events for Max the bulldog to attend.  
   
   
3. Does everyone race at the same time?
   No, we divide the Trot into 3 different  25 minute races and it allows every class to run and cheer for their school mates. 
   
   
4. Will there be awards?
   Yes! Since it is a friendly competition, in each of the 3 separate races we award trophies to the class winners, class spirit winners and individual medals to students who run the most laps in each race.
   
   
5. How can I help?  Can I volunteer?
   Absolutely! We can’t make this event happen without the support of our amazing parent volunteers. If you’re interested in helping, we will be in touch soon for fun volunteer opportunities. It’s always a blast! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Sign up here
   
   
6. I’m not cleared, can I still cheer for my child and class?
   Yes, you can easily see them from behind the fence. Check the schedule to see when they will be running and/or outside cheering.  You too can be in spirit!!!
   
   

7. Will my child receive a t-shirt?
   Yes, your child should have received their McKinley 2025-2026 grade-level shirt that they can wear to the Turkey Trot. If your student has not received a shirt, please work with your teacher to get one.

Things to Remind Your Child:

• Proper Attire: Make sure they wear comfortable clothing suitable for running. If they brought their McKinley shirt, remind them to wear it. 
• Sneakers: Closed-toe athletic shoes are a must for safe participation.
• Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is key, so please send them with a labeled water bottle.
• Great Sportsmanship!

¡Nos complace compartir detalles sobre nuestro McKinley Turkey Trot anual que se llevará a cabo el viernes 21 de noviembre de 2025! Siempre es un evento muy divertido. A continuación, encontrará respuestas a algunas preguntas frecuentes para ayudarlo a comprender este evento especial y cómo puede participar.

1. ¿Qué es el McKinley Turkey Trot?
   El Turkey Trot es un evento anual de carrera divertida en McKinley, donde los estudiantes pueden celebrar la temporada participando en una carrera amistosa con sus compañeros de clase. Esta se ha convertido en una tradición escolar querida tanto para los estudiantes como para los maestros.
   
2. ¿Por qué lo hacemos?
   El Turkey Trot no solo fomenta la actividad física, sino que también fomenta el espíritu escolar y el compromiso comunitario. Es una oportunidad maravillosa para que los estudiantes se diviertan, se animen entre sí y practiquen el trabajo en equipo. Por supuesto, siempre nos encanta tener eventos a los que asista Max, el bulldog.
   
   
3. ¿Todos corren al mismo tiempo?
   No, dividimos el Trote en 3 carreras diferentes de 25 minutos y permite que cada clase corra y aliente a sus compañeros de la escuela.
   
   
4. ¿Habrá premios?
   ¡Sí! Como es una competencia amistosa, en cada una de las 3 carreras separadas otorgamos trofeos a los ganadores de la clase, ganadores del espíritu de la clase y medallas individuales a los estudiantes que corren la mayor cantidad de vueltas en cada carrera.
   
   
5. ¿Cómo puedo ayudar? ¿Puedo ser voluntario?
   ¡Absolutamente! No podemos hacer que este evento suceda sin el apoyo de nuestros increíbles padres voluntarios. 6. No estoy autorizado, ¿puedo animar a mi hijo y a mi clase?
   Sí, puede verlos fácilmente desde detrás de la cerca. Consulte el cronograma para ver cuándo correrán y/o animarán afuera. ¡¡¡Usted también puede estar en espíritu!!!
   
   
7. ¿Mi hijo recibirá una camiseta?
   Sí, su hijo/a debería haber recibido la camiseta de McKinley correspondiente a su grado escolar (2025-2026) para la carrera Turkey Trot. Si su hijo/a no ha recibido una camiseta, por favor, hable con su profesor/a para conseguir una.

Cosas para recordarle a su hijo:

• Atuendo adecuado: asegúrese de que use ropa cómoda adecuada para correr. Si trajeron su camiseta de McKinley, recuérdeles que se la pongan.
• Zapatillas deportivas: los zapatos deportivos cerrados son imprescindibles para participar de manera segura.
• Botella de agua: mantenerse hidratado es clave, así que envíelos con una botella de agua etiquetada.
• ¡Gran espíritu deportivo!
